“In all, eight teams representing certain talukas will take part in the tournament including Dost Cricket Club,” said Anand Naik, convener of the veterans tournament while addressing a news conference in Mapusa. Tulshidas Shetye and Desh Kinelkar, president and secretary of Dost Cricket Club respectively and Ramesh Pankar were
also present.
“The winning team will get Rs 20,000 cash prize, while the runners-up will take away Rs 10,000. There will also be individual prizes for best bowler, best batsman, Man of the match, etc,” Naik added.
Although the minimum age limit for the players will be 45 years, at least three players have to be compulsorily above 50 years of age in the playing 11, the organizers said.
“The basic aim of organizing a tournament of the veterans is because many old players, who have either played Ranji matches or other tournaments, do not get an opportunity to play,” the
convener said.
The organizers will felicitate former Dost Cricket Club member, Yeshwant Barde, who was recently appointed as an umpire to officiate Indian Premier League matches. The tournament has been sponsored by noted Mapusa businessman, Ramesh Pankar, the elder brother of late Ramchandra
Pankar.
