Dunes dominated the game right from the word go and never allowed their opponents to operate smoothly. They came close to scoring in the 6th minute when Vivek was brought down by the rival defender and referee awarded a free kick. The free kick taken by Kritikesh hit the human wall and later Leslie Britto's 40-yard scorcher was acrobatically saved by Xetrapal goalkeeper Nandadeep.
At the other end, Xetrapal Sports Club took time to settle down and had a golden chance to surge ahead in the 16th minute but Omkar failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in a one to one situation, off pass from Sagar. Undeterred by the minor scare, Dunes went into an attacking mode and Sylvester's cross from the left flank saw Anant Gad fail to tap into an open goal. Later Kritikesh's shot found the side netting after Anson had put him on the platter. Dunes used the width of the pitch to exploit the opponents' defence. They made continuous runs on the flanks and managed to cross the ball often.
Crossing over, Dunes were dominant and their breakthrough came in the 44th minute when striker Sylvester beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish off a pass from Anant Das. Stung by that setback, Xetrapal upped the ante and were rewarded with a spot kick. However Pranay failed to convert the golden chance as Dunes held on for the narrow win.
