Aleixo da Costa thanked Deccan Chemical for coming forward to support the GFDC centre. He said, "Every kid wants to become a Ronaldo or a Messi and hence I request the parents to support their kids. The only problem the kids are facing is tuition after class. We have a wrong perception that a student who plays will not do well in studies. In fact a student who plays will be healthier and study better than a mind that sits indoor."
Arora of Deccan Fine Chemicals said that it was a great feeling to be associated with the game and they will support the GFDC Corlim Centre with other facilities as well. "We want you to work hard and represent the State and country someday," Arora told the 100 odd trainees gathered on the occasion.
Madkaikar appreciated the efforts put in by GFDC and at the same time thanked Deccan Fine Chemicals for their support towards the centre. He urged the kids to practise regularly in order to become perfect. "GFDC has 36 centres across Goa and they have been encouraging the budding talent. Through sports the mind remains refreshed and health in good condition. Sports and education goes hand in hand and are two sides of the same coin," he stated.
Dr Monteiro put forth that the local MLA has plans to improve the Montfort ground where the GFDC trainees are currently training. He thanked the management of Montfort Institute, Deccan Fine Chemical, Portais SC, parents, coaches and trainees at the respective centre. "Studies are very important but when you play you are able to study better. If you exercise you will become healthy and fit. There are many career opportunities available for kids who are interested in sports. One can become a professional player, coach, referee, physio or even take up sports management," Dr Monteiro stated.
Other dignitaries present at the occasion were Sarpanch of Corlim, Shiva Naik; Panch of Corlim, Chandrashekhar Kankonkar; Dean of Old Goa Deanery, Fr Alfred Vaz and Director and Principal of Montfort Institute, Corlim, Bro Vasant Kumar.
