Friends XI, Vaddem edged Sinquerim Sports Club 5-4 via a tie-breaker to march into the quarter-finals of Mc Dowell's No 1 Yaari Premier Cup inter village football tournament organized by Agassaim Youth Club at Agassaim ground, on Thursday. Both the teams were tied 1-1 at normal period.
Friends' Dawyne Ticlo's stiff shot was well blocked by Premyesver Adfodkar. Friends XI continued to put sustained pressure on the rival defence with Dawyne and Edberg Sequeira combining well upfront. Alex D'Souza opened the scoring for Friends in the 15th minute when he received a pass from Dwayne and beat the Sinquerim goalkeeper. However, Sinquerim regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp with Mandar Naik sending in a rasping volley, which was fisted away by the rival goalkeeper.
Crossing over, Friends XI continued to dictate terms with their forwards making a couple of sorties to the rival goal. Daywne was the standout performer in the middle as he led his team's attacks, taking frequent pot shots at the rival goal. However despite their dominance, they couyld not find the insurance goal. With time running out, Sinquerim made frantic efforts and finally found the equaliser when Kundan Narvekar scored the precious goal.
In the tie-breaker, Pundalik Navelkar, Davendra Khaunte, Francis Rodrigues and Dawyne Ticlo converted for Friends XI ,Vaddem while Mandar, Kundan, and Laxman converted for Sinquerim Sports Club.
