The Goa Badminton Association (GBA) conducted a State Umpires Certification Programme over the weekend at the Indoor Stadium, Campal. The two-day programme concluded on Sunday and was aimed at training and certifying technical officials in the State.

The clinic was conducted by BAI National (Grade 2) umpires Anar Singbal and Aman Raut Dessai. It covered topics such as the Laws of Badminton, Instructions to Technical Officials (ITTO), General Competition Regulations (GCR), and scoresheet management. The session concluded with a certification examination.

Forty participants from across Goa took part in the programme. Practical training and on-court evaluation for these participants will be carried out during the upcoming State Badminton Ranking Tournaments.

In a statement, GBA President Manoj Patil said the initiative aligns with the association’s efforts to strengthen all aspects of the sport. GBA Secretary Praveen Shenoy added that the clinic also serves as a refresher course for existing officials, aiming to improve officiating standards in the State.

The programme is part of GBA’s broader activities in its 60th anniversary year.
