A swashbuckling 59-run knock by Man of the match Suraj Dongre helped holders Ghumteshwar Warriors beat Badem Sports Club by 30 runs and retain the 6th All Goa Babu Brothers Twenty20 cricket tournament organised by Babu Brothers Sports Association, at SAG Sports Complex, Fatorda on Sunday.
Batting first, Ghumteshwar Warrior rode on Dongre's innings to put up a total of 168 for the loss of seven wicket in their allotted 20 overs. Amar Arkas (34) chipped in with useful runs for Ghumteshwar, while Akshay Darekar starred with the ball for Badem, scalping 4 for 29.
In reply, Badem Sports Club were bundled out for 138 in 19 overs. Aditya Suryavanshi top-scored with 49 and was supported by Amogh Dessai, who contributed 33 runs. For Ghumteshwar Warriors, Suyash Prabhudessai was the most successful bowler with figures of 5 for 24. Tushar Sawant and Santosh Upadye scalped two wickets each.
With the win, Ghumteshwar Warriors were richer by a cash purse of Rs 75,000 and a trophy while Badem SC had to settle for a prize of Rs 35,000. The Man of the series award, a Hero Extreme bike, was given to Aniket Desai for his all-round performance in the tournament.
Chetan Desai, president of Goa Cricket Association and Vishnu Surya Wagh, Deputy Speaker, were the chief guests and gave away the prizes. Ashendra Naik, president of Babu Brothers Sports Association welcomed the guests while Sushant Shirodkar proposed a vote of thanks.
