After successfully organizing the event in Kolhapur last year in July with more than 2000 participants, Ruggedian Lifestyle Pvt Ltd is back with a one-of-its-kind event in the country by introducing for the first time in Goa, the Goa Obstacle Race 2017 on January 29 at the Miramar beach.
"The event is an easy, doable race for the mentally strong who can take their time and do it calmly," revealed the first Iron Man from Kolhapur, Akash Korgaonkar who is the brainchild behind the unique event. He disclosed this at a press briefing in the city on Thursday. Shivani Rai of Ruggedian Lifestyle Pvt. Ltd, said: "We have been conducting a plethora of sports, adventure and other entertainment throughout the year since the last five years. We have a large fan following in Kolhapur and Pune where we have been holding our events and now look at Goa with a similar perspective. In future, we will have our events in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru."
Nickton Dias, Goa support said: "A lot of youth are conscious of their health and aim to participate in such events to maintain their bodies."
The solo obstacle race of 7.5 km approx. will have 15 and more obstacles placed on the go. The obstacles would include Wall Climbing, Wire Crawling to Monkey Grind which would commence from Miramar beach going towards the SAG football ground, Campal. The obstacles will push the participants to explore their potential and help overcome self-limitations, as the obstacles are cleverly designed to push the participants to their very limits and bring out their best. Aline with overcoming all the obstacles it is important to complete the race in time.
It has two categories: a) Fun category (Above 10 years) and b) Competitive race: 18-35 years, 35-50 years, 50-65 years, 65+ years in men's and women's categories respectively. The fun race is to be held at a standard fee of Rs 1000 which is inclusive of a T-shirt, the finisher's medal and refreshments. Those participating in the competitive race shall be eligible for the above, as well as
a timing chip. Along with exciting prizes, the group and corporate discounts are also being offered for early registrations. The prize money is pegged at Rs 1.5 lakh which would be in kind.
While the Fun category would commence at 7.45 am, the Competitive race would begin at 7.30 am. There would be 2 ambulances on call in case of emergency and 100 volunteers. The response has been encouraging thus far with over 350 registered entries which is expected to receive a participation of over 1000 athletes. The event is supported by GTDC, SAG and Mall De Goa.
