Goa sub junior boys registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Arunachal Pradesh to move into the pre quarter final at the UTT 81st Cadet and Sub-Junior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships in Dharamshala.
The team coached by Irwin Cordo, who had earlier defeated Telengana by a similar 3-0 score line however lost their last league match to table toppers West Bengal by a slender 2-3 margin to emerge second in the group.
The sub junior boys team, having Anshuman Agarwal, Nagesh Verenker, Shantesh Mapsekar and Aaron Colaco in their ranks will be next up against Uttar Pradesh in the knock out stage. There was a reversal of fortunes for the sub junior girls teams which had won their opening league round match earlier.
They lost 1-3 to Telengana and 0-3 to Kerala to bow out of the team event. The cadet girls team were edged out 2-3 by Assam but qualified by virtue of coming second in the group, with 3-0 wins over Bihar and Jharkhand.
The cadet girls squad comprising of Trisha Verlekar, Leoma Fernandes, Galya Fernandes and Ruchi Kirtani will face a formidable Maharashtra squad in the round of 16.
