Goa will host 36th Sub-Junior National Archery Championship for boys and girls from January 7 to 16 next year at Fatorda Sports Complex in Margao.
The championship to be hosted by Amateur Archery Association, Goa (AAAG) will see around 900 to 1,000 archers in action. Speaking to media persons in Panaji on Tuesday, AAAG president Kiran Kandolkar, the legislator from Tivim, said that the 10-day event will be held in three categories -- Indian round category from Janaury 8 to 10, Recurve (FITA) round category from Janaury 11 to 13 and Compound round category for boys and girls from Janaury 14 to 16.
Kandolkar, who addressed the press briefing alongside organising secretary Chetan Kavlekar, said that around 300 participants in each category of boys and girls, besides coaches and managers and around 75 technical officials, including scorers from Goa, will participate in the event which will be covered by national broadcaster Doordarshan.
Goan archers Deviprasad Kamath, Siddesh Dhargalkar and Nidhi Kamath will be the main contenders for medals in their respective categories in the premier competition. Meanwhile, senior international archer Snehal Divakar, who has represented India more than four times, and is in Korea for advance training with the Indian team has been singled out as an Olympic prospect will be a star attraction at the meet.
