Goa's women suffered a crushing 57-run defeat at the hands of Tamil Nadu in the Under-19 Women's Elite T20 Cricket Tournament on Friday. After restricting Tamil Nadu to 187 runs in 47.1 overs, Goa were bowled out for just 130 runs in 38.5 overs. The match was played at the Railway Ground in Vadodara.
Goa's bowlers, especially Vidhi Bhandare and Prachi Nikam, put up a commendable effort, claiming four and three wickets respectively while also curbing Tamil Nadu's scoring rate. Harshita Yadav took two wickets, while Athashree Shivarkar chipped in with one. For Tamil Nadu, opener Hashini top-scored with 35 runs. At one stage, Goa had reduced Tamil Nadu to 80 for 5, but resistance from the lower-order batters helped them add over a hundred more runs.
Chasing a modest target, Goa lost early wickets and slumped to 23 for 4, and later to 82 for 9. Batting at No. 5, Athashree Shivarkar played a splendid knock of 82 runs off 95 balls, including 15 fours, and added 48 runs for the last wicket with Vidhi Bhandare (not out 10). Despite this effort, Goa's innings ended with 67 balls still remaining.
This was Goa's fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament in the group A`. Goa will play their final group match against Uttarakhand on Sunday, December 21.
