Hong Kong-based Goan Brad Dias announced his career move to Europe from Asia in single seater racing which will see him compete in the year-old FIFA Formula 4 Dansih Championship in the 2018 season.
The 21-year-old will drive for former Formula One driver Jan Magnussen’s F4 team Magnussen Racing Experience alongside 14-year-old Danish Frederik Kikkenborg. The series uses French manufacturer’s Mygale chassis with a 2.0 litre Renault engine, something which Brad is familiar with after competing in the Asian Formula Renault and the MRF F1600 Championship.
The year 2018 will be Brad’s first foray in Europe with the aim to win races in his rookie season in the FIA-regulated championship. The Goan driver had his first taste of the Danish F4 car in Italy earlier this month. Hong Kong-based Goan, Brad Dias in his first Asian Renault Outing clinched two podiums in Class B Category at Zhuhai, China’s southern Guangdong province, on the border with Macau, recently.
Dias had his first run in the car in Denmark earlier this week to get the first hand information for his maiden race run in Europe this weekend. “I am pleased to announce that I will race in the Formula 4 Denmark Championship this year with with Magnussen Racing Experience,” Brad said.
On racing for Magnussen Racing Experience, the young driver said, “I was evaluating different series over the winter, but I chose this because of the great value and chance to work with former Formula One driver and current Corvette Racing Factory Driver Jan Magnussen, and renowned driver manager Peter Collins. There is nothing more to add about Jan’s career and experience with his son Kevin, who’s making waves in Formula One. Peter, on the other hand, has worked with many great racing drivers “ some who have gone onto become world champions. I felt it was the best choice for me to go with them.”
Brad Dias, who is preparing for the Dansih Championship, is taking home a lot of positives from Zhuhai and Macau. “I am thrilled to complete this rally,” he said. “Every stage was quite challenging, physically and mentally.”
He believes his international exposure is reaping results now as the knowledge imparted is helping riders to prepare better for the challenges abroad. Now the 21 year-old has been racing for quite some time and has successfully managed to continue pursuing his passion. “I am practising daily since I am serious about racing. I plan to continue racing till I am fit. Racing keeps me motivated to stay fit and helps me in flying,” said the Goan native.
