Goans Hockey suffered yet another embarrassing 9-2 loss against Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu in the Hockey India Sub Junior National Championship to finish their group league engagements on a disappointing note in Chandigarh on Thursday.
The team coached by Aviraj Madgaonkar and managed by Warren Dias, thus conceded 19 goals in three matches and scored three in the process. They finished with a lone point earned from a fighting 1-1 draw with Gujarat.
The Goans Hockey boys lost 9-0 to Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in their first match and then drew 1-1 with Hockey Gujarat in their second league match.
Suffering one sided embarrassing losses is not new to the Goans Hockey team, the Junior and senior team for both men and women and also for boys and girls have faced huge defeats in the past few years.
The Goan Sub juniors have now conceded 117 goals in 14 matches in 16 months and scored 12 in the process.
Yesterday, the Goans Hockey boys managed to keep the Tamil Nadu boys at bay for the first quarter of the match but thereafter it was the opponents who ruled the roost picking holes at will to earn a resounding win.
Of the two goals Goans Hockey scored both were from penalty corner conversions, while Tamil Nadu nine goals, five were field goals and four came from penalty conversions.
Tamil Nadu earned 14 penalty corners as compared to Goans Hockey’s four.
Tamil Nadu started the scoring in the 16th minute through Sundarajith M field goal and added a second one a minute later through Gowtham, also a field goal.
The Goans Hockey bounced back and converted a penalty corner through Gourav C Shetty to make it 2-1 in the 20th minute.
Thereafter both the teams did not trouble the scorers in the first half.
In the second half, Sundarajith M converted a penalty corner to make it 3-1 in the 32nd minute and nine minutes later Athiban made it 4-1 with a penalty corner conversion.
Tamil Nadu continued to pick holes in the Goans Hockey defense with S Lakshmanan Sri getting his name on the goal scorers list with a goal from a penalty corner.
Thereafter goals from Sugumar M (47th minute), Kamalesh K (49th) and Renjith (51) took Tamil Nadu tally to seven goals against one.
Goans Hockey second goal came through a penalty cone conversion from Yadav Rakesh with five minutes left for the final whistle.
Tamil Nadu completed the rout of the Goans Hockey with their ninth goal in the last minute of the match with Sugumar M converting the penalty corner.
