Goans Hockey win 3-0 against Hockey Uttarakhand in their opening match of the 15th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2025 at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

Goans Hockey opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Thrishul Ganapathi H, one of the six outstation players who took the field for Goans Hockey.

The other outstation players in the team are Hari Rama LS, Bhavin Kushalappa K R, Ankit, Thrishul Ganapathi H, Toshant and Subramani Ac

Ten minutes later, Swapnil Haldankar increased the lead while in the second half Issub Sayyed made it 3-0 in the 50th minute to complete their second win in six years in the men’s senior championship.

Goans hockey has been on the receiving end for the last one and half decade suffering humiliating defeats at the national level in all categories in both men and women categories besides the Junior and sub junior sections of both boys’ and girls’ section.

Incidentally, Goans Hockey registered their first win after a gap of six years last year in the senior men championship when they defeated Hockey Gujarat, the victory which was made possible due to the presence of seven outstation players.

Swapnil won the player of the match award.

The tournament is played in the same new Division-based format as the Senior Women National Championship was played in March this year, in which Goans Hockey did not participate but withdrew the team after training for three weeks.
