DULER
Guardian Angel Sports Club drubbed SCC Cavelossim 4-1 in the Goa Professional League at Duler stadium, here on Saturday.
The match got off to a delayed start at 4.20 pm as none of the match officials were present in the Referees room at the reported time. Stadium manager Anthony Lobo called Gregory Estrocio (Match Commissioner - not appointed for Saturday’s match), who managed to rope in the referees and get the action started, while Dharma Chodankar officiated on the centre and he along with Milagres Fernandes, assisted the referee on the lines. After a quarter of the match, Pandurang Korgaonkar replaced Gregory and Anthony Lobo did the duty of fourth official.
Both the team managers agreed to play after 20 minutes of delay as they did not want to return home with a postponement and let the management bear the financial burden for no fault of theirs. When the match began, both teams seemed content with a midfield duel and the first session was mostly restricted in terms of goal-scoring chances, although Guardian Angel did have a couple of attempts at the Cavelossim goal.
The match came to life only in the second half, wherein the first minute after resumption Cavelossim right-winger Allwyn Vaz sent a perfect cross to the tall Alvito Miranda, whose firm header was superbly parried for a corner by Angel goalkeeper Ram Sroop. Five minutes later, the goalkeeper once again came to his team’s rescue as he blocked a fierce 25-yard shot from Cavelossim’s
Ashley Araujo.
However in the 62nd minute, U-20 player Joval Fernandes, collecting an intelligent through-pass from his skipper Nicholas Rodrigues just at the edge of the penalty box, covered some ground and brilliantly scored a gem of a goal with a lofted shot, which entered the top corner of the goal beating goalkeeper Siddesh Morje hands down. Pepped up by the goal it did not take long for Angel to double their lead, where in the 73rd minute Nigerian Yakubu Mohammad made no mistake to finish clinically a cross from the right flank by Perryson Rebello.
Just two minutes later, Cavelossim should have pulled a goal back, but once again Alvito Miranda was unlucky as his tap at the goal from the far post off an accurate cross by Allwyn Vaz, was acrobatically pushed to safety by goalkeeper Ram Sroop. Soon after however, the Angel goalkeeper could do very little when Alvito drove a 25-yard right-footer into the back of the Angel’s goal, to reduce the margin (1-2).
Cavelossim should have equalised in the 80th minute but this time Alvito’s weak shot at the goal off a pass from Allwyn, was collected by Angel’s goalkeeper. In the 85th minute, a neat pass from the left by Angel skipper Nicholas, was brilliantly converted into a goal by Perryson Rebello to make it 3-1. Angel’s hunger for goals did not end there as in the 90+5th minute, Perryson stabbed the ball home to score his brace and the team’s fourth goal (4-1).
