Defending champions Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim continued to be on a roll, punishing Rosary High School, Navelim 6-0 in their Salcete Taluka Under 17 Subroto Mukherjee inter-school football tournament organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at Government School play ground, Cuncolim on Saturday. Rosary Higher Secondary School led 4-0 at the breather.

The highlight of the day was a splendid hat-trick by Darren Peixoto,who along with Stendly Fernandes were the fulcrum of the team that helped them demolish the rivals with ease.

Darren was in fine form and struck twice while Standely also pumped in two more to give his team a 4-0 cushion at half time.

Crossing over, Rosary HSS continued to probe and nibble away at the rival defence with Darren registering his hat-trick. Savlon finally buttressed the score with the team's sixth goal.

Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary, Verna thrashed The King's School, Sao Jose de Areal 4-0 after leading 3-0 at the breather. Savio Calado was the hero of the day as he scored a brace.

Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, dominated the game and pushed their oppponents on the back foot. Elrich D'Cunha opened the scoring in the early moments of the game when he bulged the net. Savio Calado struck twice in quick succession to give his team a 3-0 cushion.

The second half did not bring any respite to the sagging morale of Rosary Higher Secondary School as their opponents attacked from both the flanks. Savio Calado scored a hat rick to troop out worhty winners.

Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal prevailed over Assumpta Convent High School, Sarzora 4-3 via tie-breaker after both the teams were locked in a goalless draw at the end of regulation period. Both the teams adopted aggressive approach and had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards squandered simple chances.

The second session continued in the same vein with both the teams showing urgency but yielded no result. In the ensuing penalty shootout, Sansio Olveira, Josley Moraes, Mark Carvalho and Clinton Dias converted for Bethany Convent High School, while Kidron Fernandes, Shanon Carvalho and Myron Ferrao found the mark for Assumpta Convent.

RMS Higher Secondary School, Margao blanked St Joseph Educational Insitute,Chandor 3-0. The winner led 1-0 at half time. RMS HSS held the upper hand in both the sessions. Wilson, Palroy and Hassan were the goal-getters.

Meanwhile many schools participating in the tournament complained that the Government School playground is in an unplayable condition. "If you look at the ground you will know that is worse to play in such condtions and I dont know how the referee allowed the match to continue," stated a PE teacher.

In the Under 14 matches played at SAG Artifical Turf Grounds, Fatorda, Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal dethroned holders St Rita's High School, Maina 4-2 via tie-breaker after both the teams were locked in a goalless draw at the end of normal time.

Last year's runners-up Loyola High School, Margao made short work of Our Lady of Succour High School, Nagoa 3-0. Loyola High School held the upper hand in both the sessions and restricted their opponents to their own half. Phil Braganza, Rohan Viegas and Achillies Fernandes were the scorers for Loyola High School.

Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda walloped St Jude High School, Betalbatim 4-0. Our Lady of Rosary High School outplayed their oppoents in all departments of the game. Jordan Borges scored twice while Meldon Oliveira and Josivel Cardozo were the other scorers for the winners.

Auxilium High School, Benaulim edged past Mae dos Pobres High School, Nuvem 1-0. Manfred scored the all-important goal.
