Hosts Goa started their campaign in the West Zone Sub Junior National football championship for boys on a rousing note pummelling Daman & Diu 10-0 in the lung opener (Group A) at Duler on Sunday.
Goa went ahead very early in the second minute when Rohan Viegas slotted home off a Saideep Pomburphekar corner kick. A couple of minutes later, Ryan Dias entered his name on the score-sheet capitalising from an Aditya Salgaonkar pass and tapping the ball into the back of the nylons from the small box. Shortly after, Rohan Viegas struck again from the left flank off a Joseph De Souza pass.
After an early goal deluge, Daman & Diu tried to put up some resistance but their citadel collapsed again midway through the first itself. Ryan Dias came to party again showcasing his sublime skills to weave past four defenders to net a goal. By the half-hour mark, Rohan Viegas had a hat-trick to his name, scoring from close range off a Vesley Paes corner.
Couple of minutes later, Rohan found the back of the nylons again with a deft placement off a Saideep Pomburphekar corner kick. On the 38th minute, Rohan registered his fifth goal, maximising the effort arising from a rebound ball off team-mate Aditya Salgaonkar.
Post resumption, the Union Territorial outfit was all at sea at 0-7 down, but kept the marauding Goa forwards at bay for the better part of the second session. But the defence could not sustain the resistance till the end and crumbled in the last quarter to leak in another three goals to the home team.
Goa's Aditya -- after being denied a goal prior to lemon break -- made no mistake on the 65th minute when Saideep's cross, blocked by a Daman & Diu defender, came in the path of Aditya to slot home. Goa's ninth goal came off the boot of Harsh Patre off a corner on the 70th minute. Aditya netted his brace from close range on the 85th minute to end the agony of the visitors with a 10-0 scoreline.
