MARGAO: Joe Cookies, Loutolim blanked Alvares Brothers, Taleigao 2-0 to cruise into the quarter-final of All Goa Fr Agostinho Rodrigues memorial veteran football tournament organized by Nuvem Veterans at Church grounds, Nuvem on Thursday. There was no score at lemon-time Joe Cookies saw plenty of the ball in the early stages while Alvares Brothers were happy to defend in numbers. Post resumption, Joe Cookies put up a decent performance and were very compact with experienced players in their ranks. The deadlock was broken soon after the resumption, when Menino controlled the ball well and slotted past the rival goalkeeper with stiff shot midway in the opening sessions. Francis sealed the rival fate when he unleashed a stiff shot that crashed into the net to troop out worthy winners.

King's School win TT title
MARGAO: King's School, Sao Jose de Areal beat Loyola High School, Margao 2-0 to clinch the Salcete Taluka Under 14 Boys inter school table tennis tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA) at the Sports Authority Goa Multipurpose hall, Fatorda. In the first singles Nagesh Verenkar defeated Jaden Gomes 11-5,10-12, 11-1 while in the second game Jaden Gomendis beat Tanishk Deshpande 11-5, 12-10, 11-5. Earlier in the semis, King’s School defeated Vidya Vikas Academy while in the second game Jaden Gomendis beat Tanishk Deshpande 11-5, 12-10, 11-5. Earlier in the semis, King’s School defeated Vidya Vikas Academy while Loyola HS got better of Mahila and Nutan HS on the way to the final.

Manovikas outclass Vidya Vikas
MARGAO:Manovikas High School, Margao outclassed Vidya Vikas Academy, Margao 3-0 to emerge winners in the Salcete Taluka Under 14 girl's table tennis tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at SAG Multipurpose hall, Fatorda. In the first match Radhika of Manovikas defeated Anaida Gracias 11-2, 11-6, 11-3. International paddler Tanis Kirtani made short work with an easy 11-1, 11-2, 11-3 win over Janhavi Naik Dalal while Tiara Fernandes completed the rout with a 11-8, 11-4, 11-7 win over Nocole Ferrao. The third place was bagged by Mahila Nutan English HS who scored a hard fought 2-1 win over Fatima Convent High School, Margao.

Veterans tourney in Mapusa
MAPUSA: The first All Goa Veterans Football Tournament in memory of late Mathew Braganza, Mapusa and organised by Angod-Morrod-Friend Circle Mapusa will be held from July 18. The tournament will be held at Duler stadium, Mapusa. Loutolim Veterans (Joe Cookies) take on Nuvem Veterans (Marc Caterers) in the inaugural. All matches will start at 4.45 pm. Ryan Braganza, former councilor of Mapusa Municipal Council will be the chief guest. The winners will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 66,666 and runners-up will take away Rs 33,333. The semi-finalists will be awarded Rs 11,111.

Deepvihar, Chandrabhaga chess champs
MARGAO: Chandrabhaga T Naik HSS Curchorem and Deepvihar HSS Headland
Sada Vasco won the inter-zonal inter-HSS chess tournament in girls and boys section respectively organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at Nehru Stadium conference hall, Fatorda.
RMS HSS finished second while Damodar HSS, Gudi had to be content with third place. In the boys category- Zone III winners Deepvihar HSS claimed the title while CTN HSS Curchorem took the second place.The third place was bagged by Guardian Angel HSS of Curchorem.
