Applications invited for Dilip Sardesai award
Panaji: The DSYA has invited applications from eligible sportspersons through the respective State level sports associations, duly recognized by the SAG for conferring the 'Dilip Sardesai Sports Excellence Award' for the year 2015-16.This special award in instituted by the State government as a tribute to the legendary cricketer Dilip Sardesai. The award comprises a bronze plaque, a citation and a purse of Rs 2lakh and will be awarded to the highest achiever amongst Goan sportspersons representing India at any recognized international sports competition during the year 2014-15. The application forms may be collected from the DSYA offices at Campal, Panaji, during working hours. The completed forms accompanied by copies of certificates of sports achievements, countersigned by the competent authorities should be submitted to the DSYA head office at Campal, Panaji on or before August 31, 2015. Applications received after the due date will not be entertained.
Marina English HS, OL of Succour, OL of Snow's win
MARGAO: Marina English High School, Verna shocked holders Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal 1-0 to enter the semi-final of Salcete Taluka Under-14 Subroto Mukherjee football tournament at Dramapur ground, on Monday. The lone goal came in the 6th minute when Akid Sayeed's shot found the roof of the net. Stung by the setback, Bethany went into attacking mode. Crossing over, Bethany put up an improved display and threatened the rival goal but defenders stood tall to protect the slender lead. Marina had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards squandered from ideal positions. In the second match, OL of Succour High School, Nagoa beat St Joseph Educational Institute High School, Chandor 5-3 via tiebreaker after both the teams were locked in a goalless draw at the end of regulation period. In the penalty shoot-out, Pranoy Kotarkar, Jowin Fernandes, Sweeten D'Sa, James D'Sa and Sweerton Rodrigues found the mark for the Nagoa School while Richard Fernandes, Roydeen Antao and Jordan Fernandes were on target for St Joseph. In the third match, Our Lady of Snow's, Raia beat OL of Carmel High School, Curtorim 5-4 via penalty shoot out after both the teams were tied 1-1 at full time.
