Ukrainian Grandmaster Martyn Kravtsiv (2654 ratings) and Russia’s Popov Ivan (2609) will headline the 1st Goa International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament to be held in Goa from October 13 to 20 at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Goa University.
Meanwhile, the B category have 165 entries till date while the C category have received 130 entries.
The State Chess Association will provide the participants lodging and boarding services, which has been covered under their registration fee. The registration fee for the A Category is Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000 for the B Category (ratings 1999 and below) and C Category (rating 1599 and below).
The State’s first major chess tournament since the World Junior Chess Championship in 2002, will see participants from 20 different countries.
“We are happy to host the 1st Chess Grand Masters in Goa and I’m proud of the Goa Chess Association for getting this event to our State. Such competitions will help our aspiring chess players to get international exposure,” said Goa Sports Minister Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar.
The last date for players to give their entries on www.gmgoa.com is October 2.
