Lack of spectators at stadiums a big worry for LOC in Goa

The first meeting of the steering committee of FIFA under-17 World Cup India, 2017 (Goa), was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma at Secretariat at Porvorim on Thursday.

According to a press release from the Department of Information and Publicity, the meeting was attended by B R Singh, Secretary, Sports; Srinivas Dempo, Tournament Director, LOC; Xavier Ceppi, Tournament Director, FIFA; Roma Khanna, Venue Director, FIFA; V M Prabhudesai, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, heads of departments and senior government 
officials.
The meeting deliberated on the role and responsibilities of the line departments in holding the mega event in Goa. The meeting took note of the AFC under-16 Championship held in Goa wherein it received poor crowd response in spite of the State having a lot of football lovers. 
It has been therefore proposed to formulate a joint action plan by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to engage more spectators at the stadium for the tournament including intensive State-wide campaign from August 2017. The meeting also held a discussion on the formulation of a Crisis Management Cell to deal with any misinformation. Besides, the committee deliberated on making required infrastructure in and around the stadium, systematic disposal of waste, fire and emergency services, security measures, volunteers for the programmes in Goa.
