FC Goa suffered a late collapse to go down 1-2 against Tajikistan’s FC Regar-TadAZ in their opening Group C fixture of the AFC Challenge League 2026-27 at the Mohammed Al-Hamad Stadium in Hawally, Kuwait, on Saturday.
The Gaurs looked set for a winning start after Spanish forward Chiki gave them an eighth-minute lead. FC Goa maintained their advantage until the break, combining attacking intent with a disciplined defensive display.
The Indian side continued to push for a second goal after the restart, creating promising opportunities. However, Regar-TadAZ’s goalkeeper stood firm with a series of crucial saves to keep his team in the contest.
FC Goa appeared to be on course for all three points before the Tajikistan outfit struck twice in the closing stages. Regar-TadAZ equalised in the 84th minute and completed the turnaround with another goal in the 89th minute, leaving the Gaurs stunned.
Despite the defeat, FC Goa showed attacking promise for much of the contest but were unable to convert their chances into a more comfortable lead.
Goa, having won the Super Cup last season, ensured a spot in the Challenge League and is drawn in Group C of the tournament, alongside Regar-TadAZ (Tajikistan), Fortis (Bangladesh) and Al-Qadsia (Kuwait).
The Gaurs will now look to regroup and address their late defensive lapses as they turn their attention to their remaining Group C fixtures in the continental competition.
The Gaurs will face Fortis three days later at the same stadium before locking horns with Al-Qadsia on October 23.
