Panaji: Manchester City has completed a successful visit to Delhi as part of their "Champions 4-in-a-row Trophy Tour." The trip included exciting community events, where fans had the chance to meet Manchester City legend Shaun Wright-Phillips and see the Premier League, Club World Cup, and Community Shield trophies up close.
During the tour, Manchester City organized a special coaching day aimed at local coaches and volunteers. This event allowed participants to learn about the club's coaching methods. Through various workshops and football drills, attendees gained valuable insights into how to adapt coaching techniques for different community settings. The focus was on cross-learning, showing how different approaches can enhance training and development in football.
In addition to the coaching day, Shaun Wright-Phillips visited the Sultanpuri community. There, Manchester City partnered with Etihad Airways and the Magic Bus India Foundation to launch the “Healthy Heroes” project. This initiative is designed to empower adolescents from underprivileged backgrounds by teaching them important life skills through sports. The goal is to help these young people stay in school and work towards their future aspirations.
The visit to Sultanpuri ended with a special gathering of Official Supporters Club (OSC) members from across India, highlighting the club’s commitment to engaging with its fan base. This connection is vital for Manchester City, as they seek to strengthen their presence in India.
The trip concluded with a fan event at Vegas Mall. Here, supporters could take pictures with the trophies, experience a new boot room, and participate in football drills led by Manchester City coaches. Fans also enjoyed watching a thrilling match between Manchester City and Arsenal, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The atmosphere was lively, with many fans celebrating their love for the club.
Reflecting on his experience in Delhi, Shaun Wright-Phillips shared his excitement: “This is my third time in India, but my first in Delhi. The experience was great. The fans here are incredibly passionate about football, and I’m glad I got an opportunity to connect with the people of Delhi. Thank you to our fans in India for your continued support!”
After the successful stop in Delhi from September 20 to 22, the "Champions 4-in-a-row" Trophy Tour will now head to Kolkata. This next leg coincides with the opening of Manchester City's first-ever football school in West Bengal.
