Mapusa Police finally initiate inquiry into Cycling Association of Goa's inflated bills from National Games 2023 issue

The Mapusa Police has finally got their feet moving in the Cycling Association of Goa (CAG) inflated bills controversy surrounding the National Games 2023 by asking for more information and documents related to the same.

A letter dated September 17 addressed to the President of CAG and received by the secretary General N G Akhargekar a couple of days back says “in order to conduct further enquiry into the matter below mentioned information/documents are required.”

The letter further mentions that “this Police Station has received a complaint from Shri. N. G Akhargekar, General Secretary, Cycling Association of Goa against President, Treasurer and Joint Secretary of Cycling Association of Goa, regarding the criminal misappropriation of funds of Rs. 14,14,920/- of Cycling Association of Goa. This amount was reportedly spent on a day camp lasting 49 days, organized under the aegis of Cycling Association of Goa, from 18th Sept 2023 to 07 Bet 2023, in preparation for the 38th National Games held in Goa from 26th Oct 2023 to 09th Nov 2023.”

The information and documents asked for are; “Furnish information whether any enquiry is initiated in the above matter from the competent authority with regards to the allegation mentioned as above. If yes, furnish the status of enquiry, copy of order for initiating enquiry issued by competent authority and its closure if any.”

“Furnish the details of the all documents pertaining to 49-days camp organized by Cycling Association of Goa along with the name of the participants and officials with complete address and contact numbers.”

“Furnish information/documents/contact number related to the C.F. Builder, Real Estate Developers, Builders and Contractors, Hirloskar Caterers, Media Solution 365 who were alleged to be engaged in supplying accommodation, food and transportation to the participants and officials. So, also any resolution/tender/order passed by the authority.”

The letter signed by Mapusa Police station Police Sub inspector Mangesh Palni has given four days’ time for the CAG officials to submit the documents and information.

“The above information should be reached to this office within 04 days to the undersigned or any reply with regards to the allegation made by the complainant on receipt of this letter for taking further necessary action as per law,” the letter added.
