Captain Aryan Narvekar’s fighting half-century kept Goa’s innings together as they reached 144 for five in 57 overs at stumps on the second day of the Men’s Under-23 Multidays Practice League match against Gujarat at the Gujarat College Cricket Ground A (Ahmedabad) on Thursday.
Goa, replying to Gujarat’s imposing 471 for nine declared, were in early trouble at 22 for two. However, Narvekar provided the much-needed stability, first combining with Nisar Nagvekar to take Goa to 70 and later anchoring the innings through a difficult phase.
Narvekar showed good composure in making 50 off 79 balls, striking six boundaries and a six. Aman Dhooper contributed 21 before being dismissed, while Dishank Prabhu Misquin and Jeevan Chittem remained unbeaten on 14 and 21 respectively at the close.
Goa’s bowlers had earlier worked hard to restrict Gujarat after the hosts resumed the day at 383 for seven. Gujarat added 88 runs to their overnight total before declaring at 471 for nine. Raj Raghwani, unbeaten on 142 overnight, continued his remarkable innings and eventually fell for 196, adding 54 runs to his first-day score. Kavyan Patel also extended his score by six runs before being dismissed for 65.
For Goa, Rahul Vishwakarma was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 53 runs, while left-arm spinner Anuj Yadav claimed three for 170. Deep Kasvankar took two wickets and Shiven Borkar one.
Goa will resume on the final day at 144 for five, with Dishank Prabhu Misquin and Jeevan Chittem at the crease.
