Favourites Models, Panaji blanked a hapless Canacona Football Academy 3-0 to move into the finals of All Goa CRC Women’s Cup football tournament organised by CRC Chinchinim, at CRC ground, Chinchinim on Thursday.
Models led 2-0 at half time. Striker Sushmita Jadhav scored a brace to guide her team to glory after Sabnam Fernandes put the
team in front.
The phase between 5th to 12 minutes saw Models squandering umpteen scoring opportunities. Lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, they constantly maintained the pressure inside the Canacona penalty box. Models, served by national players, dominated the rival defence.
In the 14th minute, Sabnam Fernandes picked up the ball from Sujata Murgaonkar and the former slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Models doubled the lead in the 20th minute when striker Sushmita Jadhav, who was the fulcrum in her team attack, beat the rival goalkeeper with a stiff shot off a Cynithia Lobo assist.
Models started the second half with greater intensity and looked hungry for more goals. However it was Canacona Football Academy who got two glorious scoring chances but Shina Baretto and Nikita Naik were denied by the rival defence.
Models handed Canacona Football Academy the final blow at the fag end with a strike from Sushmita Jhadav.
