Shadab Jakati remained unsold at the players auction for the 11th edition of IPL.The 37-year-old Goa Ranji Trophy veteran is not upset at being overlooked by the franchises but he is disappointed that there will be no Goan player featuring in the IPL this year.
“I am OK with it (being unsold). These things are not in my control. I am disappointed that there is not a single Goan this time in IPL...I am proud I have played IPL for so many years,” said Jakati, who played for Chennai Super Kings for six seasons before moving over to RCB for one and then for a couple of editions with Gujarat Lions.
The auction has sprung many surprises this season including Vidarbha’s Ranji Trophy hero Rajneesh Gurbani left unsold.
“Auction is like a gamble. Luck plays big part as well,” quipped Jakati, who had remained unsold in 2015 before forcing his way back with tremendous performance in domestic cricket subsequently.
However, the clock has ticked and one of the legends of Goan cricket, has probably reached the end of an era that saw a Goan being regular in the first internationally acclaimed T20 competition.
