A late goal by substitute Osmiro Trindade helped Dempo Sports Club overcome DSK Shivajians, Pune 1-0 in their Bandodkar Gold Cup match at Rosary ground, Navelim on Sunday.
Man of the match, Dempo goalkeeper Ozen Silva conjured up a special performance as he brought up superlative saves to keep the citadel intact. Both the teams attacked well, producing many scoring chances. As the match progressed, Dempo exerted pressure on the rivals and could have surged ahead but Hayden Fernandes' well executed freekick was well blocked by Sayak Barai.
At the other end, DSK Shivajians played a smart game, putting pressure on Dempo waistline and their wing back played a far more attacking role. Rohit Kumar marshalled the midfield well for the visitors and kept his forwards busy with a flawless passing game.
They came close to finding the lead in the 20th minute but Lalruatpuia's snap shot was well blocked by Dempo goalkeeper Ozen Silva. Dempo pushed forward in search of the goal, keeping control of possession. The Golden Eagles had a chance when attacking midfielder Hayden Fernandes unleashed a volley but it missed the target narrowly.
The pattern of the match was the same in the second half, with Dempo doing most of the attacking with striker Kapil Hoble troubling the rival defence with well orchestrated raids but DSK Shivajians rearguard, comprising of Ameya Ranawadc, Sairvat Kina and Lalnunsiama, were stubborn at the back and never allowed their rival attackers to manoeuvre inside their territory.
The visitors worked to break the rival defence and managed to create a flurry of attacks, almost finding a goal when Jesse Ralte fed a well-positioned K Lalphathanga but the latter's snap shot was blocked by the Dempo goalkeeper Ozen Silva. With the visitors doing most of the attacking, Dempo were on the back foot for a long period. The Pune team almost broke the Dempo resitance but Jesse Ralte's try was dealt well by the Dempo goalkeeper.
As the clock ticking, DSK Shivjians went all out when rival defender Jayson D'Souza's defensive lapse saw Jesse Ralte's rasping shot saved by Ozen Silva. Substitute Osmiro Trinande then scored the all important goal in the injury time. Following a well executed freekick by Hayden Ferandes, Osmiro beautifully connected his reverse kick in style to beat the rival goalkeeper Sayak Barai.
