A fine brace by Perryson Fernandes helped Ambelim Sports Club drub Rossman Cruz Sports Club, Nagoa 5-2 and advance into the quarter-finals of All Goa Our Lady of Merces inter-village football tournament, organised by Sirlim Sports Club at Church Grounds, Chinchinim on Monday. Ambelim SC led 5-1 at the breather.
Ambelim Sports Club dominated the game right from the word go and put tremendous pressure on the rival citadel. However, it was Rossman who rocked the rival citadel in the very 7th minute when Rexon Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Unfazed, Ambelim went into attacking mode and two minutes later Samson Simoes cancelled the lead with a stiff grounder. The equaliser boosted the morale of Ambelim players as they harried the rival goal when striker Samson Fernandes bulged the net in the 15th minute when he received a pass from Samson Simoes.
Five minutes later, Perryson Fernandes inflated the tally after punishing the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish. Jade Colaco added his name on the scorers' list by scoring his first goal and team's fourth goal.
In the 30th minute, Perryson Fernandes was again in the scheme of things when he punted the ball to the far corner of the net. A lot was expected from Rossman Cruz but today they lacked the conviction in their build-up and failed to function as a cohesive unit.
Post resumption, Ambelim played at leisure pace and allowed their opponents to launch a barrage of attacks and Joshua Fernandes reduced the deficit.
Ambelim had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards frittered away from a good position.
