MARGAO
Pidadigal Football Club held their nerve in a dramatic penalty shootout to defeat Agxem Sports Club 5-4 and lift the 3rd Caniza Peixoto Memorial Football Tournament title at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Sunday.
Organised by Agxem Sports Club, the final ended goalless after both teams squandered good scoring opportunities in regulation time.
Pidadigal came closest in the 46th minute when Anthony Fernandes failed to convert, while Agxem's Oysten Casthana missed a golden chance in the 59th minute as the deadlock remained unbroken.
With neither side able to find the breakthrough, the title was decided via a penalty shootout, where Pidadigal proved the more composed side, prevailing 5-4 to emerge champions.
MLA of Curtorim constituency Alex Reginald Lourenco was the chief guest and presented the trophies and individual awards to the winners, runners-up and outstanding performers in the presence of other dignitaries and club officials.
