Pidadigal Football Club-A registered a convincing 3-0 win over Rumba United Club to storm into the quarterfinals of the 3rd Caniza Peixoto Memorial 9-a-side Football Tournament, organised by Black Arrow Boys Agxem Sports Club and played at the St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim, on Sunday.
Pidadigal FC-A opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Joy Hilario, who calmly placed the ball past the goalkeeper after a well-worked move. Rumba United had a chance to equalise before the break, but Narayan Naik failed to convert, allowing Pidadigal to carry a 1-0 lead into halftime.
After the change of ends, Rumba United continued to search for a way back into the contest. Jose Paul was set up brilliantly by Milagres Rodrigues, but he failed to capitalise on the opportunity.
Pidadigal FC-A then took complete control of the match with Aliston Fernandes scoring twice in the closing stages. He struck in the 45th minute before adding another goal in the 52nd minute to seal an emphatic 3-0 victory and secure his team's place in the last eight.
For his outstanding display, Aliston Fernandes was adjudged Man of the Match. The award was presented by club player Nickson Castanha.
In another match, Sporting Club Virabhat edged past Corjem Sinaibhag United 1-0 in a closely contested encounter.
The all-important goal came from Joslan Fernandes, whose strike proved decisive and sent Sporting Club Virabhat through to the next round.
Malcom Fernandes of Corjem Sinaibhag United was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by Brigida Gomes, executive member of the club.
