Panjim Footballers earned their first point of the season following their goalless draw against Sesa Football Academy in the Goa Football Association Selvel Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Sesa FA are unbeaten in the competition after recording their successive draw in the competition after their last-gasp draw against Salgaocar FC in the first match.
Sesa squandered the biggest chance when Fazil sent in a cross in the box setting up Omkar Arondekar, who had to just direct the ball into the goal. However, Panjim Keeper Preston Rego was much quicker than the Sesa striker thus blocking the shot by diving in front of the player. Sesa FA continued attacking flying in crosses from all sides, but Panjim’s Preston Rego was there in the right place at right time.
Just before the cooling break, Panjim’s Dheeraj headed a Chandan Gawas corner over the bar. At the other end, Sesa continued to waste their good chances. Omkar on seeing Aston Rodrigues sent a long diagonal ball in the area, however, with just the keeper at his sight, the Academy lad’s shot was eventually saved by the Panjim custodian Rego.
In the 36th minute, Panjim Footballers Chandan skipped past Sesa defenders on the byline and cut back a pass to Irfan at the near post, but the latter’s poor shot was blocked by the Sesa FA defence line. In the 49th minute, Sesa FA’s Domnic managed to win the ball using his physical prowess, however, Preston Rego left his guard to collect the ball in time before the Academy player could pounce on the ball.
In the 58th minute, Sesa FA’s Shridharnath Gawas tried his luck from outside the box, but his shot went over the bar. Later Domnic wasted a chance to fire home when he was at the receiving end of Vishnu’s corner kick, but the skipper put his shot over the crossbar. Sesa continued to waste their chances as then it was Akash who got a loose ball in the box, however, he smashed the ball over the bar.
Sesa kept trying to score till the end, but they just couldn’t get the desired outcome. In the dying minutes of the game, Sesa FA had their last chance to score but Panjim’s Dhiraj Chauhan put his body on the line to put a timely tackle to deny Kunal who just had the keeper ahead of him.
