Prashant Naik's brace helped CDJ Ribandar thrash Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club 3-0 to seal a berth in the semi-finals of All Goa 20th Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side inter-village football tournament organized by Sirlim Sports Club at Church Grounds, Chinchinim on Thursday.
Sushant Naik scored the other goal for the winners. CDJ Ribandar started with great intent and took control over the match right from the word go and their forwards were guilty of missing glit-edged chances.
Sao Jose De Areal had a few scoring chances but their forwards squndered from close range. Crossing over, CDJ Ribandar's striker Prashant Naik fired his team's first goal in the 36th minute off a well-mesured cross from Suresh Kankonkar. CDJ continued attacking with stinging shots and in the 51st minute, Sushant Naik dribbled past a host of defenders and flicked the ball into the net.
Down by 0-2, Sao Jose de Areal regrouped quickly and were rewarded when Agio Antao punished the rival goalkeeper with a clincial finish off Bersel Viegas.
Unfazed, CDJ Ribandar went into attacking mode and late in the second half Prashant Naik's volley crashed into the net. The goal summed up the performance of Sao Jose de Areal lads as the dominant Ribandar team ran them ragged.
