Chris Perry’s tiatr ‘Novro Mhozo Devchar’ was doing therounds in Goa. One day after the show ended Chris Perry’s brother, Paul, andthe latter’s friend Augusto just disappeared from the theatre. We looked aroundeverywhere for them. They were not to be found anywhere. Since we were alreadydelayed, Chris Perry said we need not wait for them. So the remaining artistesboarded the bus and left on the return journey.
On reaching Margao, the stage sets were being unloaded fromthe bus top. Among the stage sets was one coffin which had been used in theplay. To our shock, these two artistes who were all the while sleeping insidethe coffin coolly opened the same, got out and began to get down from the bustop.
Composing on the spot
One day Chris Perry called me to the recording studio torecord a song. I was told to report there at 10:30 am sharp and he said hewould give me the lyrics of the song later. I reached the studio at theappointed time. Chris Perry, however, did not give me the lyrics of the songtill about 1 pm.
At lunch time, Perry’s brother Paul requested Chris to giveme the lyrics of the song. “What song should I give her?” Chris Perry in turnasked his brother Paul. To this, his brother Paul replied “Give her a song on love.”“Well if that’s the case, let’s give her a song on love,” replied Chris.
A little later, Chris Perry composed the song, ‘Pitti PittiMog’ on the spot, and I learnt it there, and recorded it on the same dayitself. That song was a hit, and it continues to be a hit till date.
