In a gripping final of the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Women’s Football Championship, Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim edged past defending champions Don Bosco College, Panjim with a 2-0 win in a tie-breaker at the SAG Athletics Stadium, Bambolim. The match, organized by Goa University, ended goalless in regular time.
Rosary began with an attacking approach, dominating possession and creating several chances. However, their efforts were either off target or denied by the woodwork. Don Bosco adopted a solid defensive strategy, with goalkeeper Flani Costa making key saves to keep her side in the game.
The second half saw increased intensity, with Rosary continuing to push forward while Don Bosco remained largely defensive. Despite sustained pressure, neither team managed to break the deadlock, forcing the match into a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Rosary goalkeeper Ria Rajesh made two crucial saves, denying Flani Costa and Blessica Fernandes. Fatima Braganza and Swellen Fernandes converted their attempts for Rosary, while Don Bosco missed all four of their shots, resulting in a 2-0 shootout victory for Rosary.
Vinoshka Fernandes of Rosary College was named Best Player of the Championship, finishing as the tournament's top scorer with five goals and playing a vital role in her team's success.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Maymol Rocky, football coach with the Sports Authority of Goa. Ryan Pereira, Director of Physical Education and Sports at Don Bosco College, and Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director at Goa University, also attended and presented medals and trophies to the finalists.
Rosary College’s triumph marks a significant achievement as they dethrone the reigning champions in a high-pressure final.
