Rosary College, Navelim defeated SS Dempo College, Cujira by a score of 2-0 in the pre-quarter final match of the inter-collegiate football championship, at Goa University ground, Taleigao on Thursday.
In the first half, a goal from Sheldon Fernandes in the 18th minute put Rosary College in the lead. Post-resumption, Rosary College doubled their lead in the 55th minute which came from Beckham Dias to book a place in the quarter-finals.
Defending champions St Xavier's College, Mapusa registered an easy win over St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim 4-0. In the first half goals from Shaviz Khan and Pratik Naik put St. Xavier's College in the lead. In the second half, Shaviz Khan completed his hat-trick to seal victory.
At Rosary College ground, In the seventh pre-quarter final match, between Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda and MES College, Zuarinagar went to a tie-breaker with a full-time score of 0-0. In the resultant tie-breaker, MES College, Zuarinagar won 4-2.
Fr. Agnel College, Pilar edged past Shree Damodar College, Margao 3-2.
In the first half, Shree Damodar College took the lead in the 22 minute which was scored by Nayab Khan. In the 28th minute, Fr Agnel College scored the equaliser through Shubert Boege. In the second half, Fr. Agnel College took the lead with a goal from Scish Gounso. In the 45 th minute, Raj Kerkar netted the equaliser for Shree Damodar College. The deciding goal from Shubert Boerges registered a quarter-final berth for Fr. Agnel College.
In the women's championship, at Goa University ground, Govt College, Pernem defeated Mandre College with a full-time score of 3-0. Goal scorer for Govt College, Pernem were Sanjana Naik, Samartha Shirodkar and Siya Pednekar.
