Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim beat Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary,Verna 7-6 via sudden-death to win the Zone III Under 19 Boys inter-higher secondary football tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at Government School play grounds, Cuncolim on Saturday.
Both the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation period. Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary were cruising along nicely with Merriston Coutinho's early goal giving them a nice cushion at the start. At the other end, Rosary Higher Secondary School took time to settle down and once they struck rhythm they called the shots against the rival citadel.
After tasting the success, Fr Agnel created more chances but they could not score more goals due to inept shooting by their forwards. Crossing over, Fr Agnel looked more organized and tried to string a few passes. But their forwards shot wayward from close range. Midway in the second half, Rosary Higher Secondary exerted pressure on the Fr Agnel defence and in the 68th minute striker Liston Colaco neutralized the lead with a stiff shot. Both the teams went all out in search of the match-winner but their defenders guarded their goal effectively.
In the penalty shoot-out, Liston Colaco, Joyston Noronha, Joebern Pereira, Clive Miranda and Anil Siolkar were on target for Rosary Higher Secondary School, while Jaison Pereira, Noel D'Silva, Klusner Pereira, Jaison Lucas, and Schubert D'Costa found the mark for Fr Agnel. Tiebreaker also failed to resolve the impasse. Sudden death was applied as Mohibi Gawas was successful for Rosary Higher Secondary while Prexton Rego's try was saved by Rosary Higher Secondary School goalkeeper Clive Miranda to troop out worthy winner.
