Salgaocar FC humbled Quelossim Sports Club 5-0 to win the South Goa GFA Under-16 League championship at DYSA ground, on Monday. Salgaocar led 2-0 at half time. Chaitan Komarpants, Aaron Barreto, Frazer Gomes, Avner Barreto and Ribhav Sardessai were the goal getters for the Green brigade.
Salgaocar Colts began their game in attacking fashion sounded the warning in the very fifth minute when Ribhav's snap shot hit the crossbar. Riston Colaco found Chaitan Komarpants inside the rival penalty box and the last named failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in a one-to-one situation. Chaitan atoned for his earlier miss and punted the ball to the far corner of the net off well measured pass from Flan Gomes.
Spurred by the success, Salgaocar Colts increased the pace and in 39th minute, Aaron Baretto doubled the lead off an assist from Chaitan. Crossing over, the Quelossim lads showed some fight with a renewed spirit as strikers Sevon Costa and Oscar D’Souza combined well and pierced the rival penalty box and called the shots against the rival goal but Sydroy Baptista was stubborn at the back and averted the danger.
At the other end, Valenton D’Souza thwarted multiple forward lunges from the Greens and disrupted their attacks. But Flan found his groove on the right wing and set up Frazer to score to inflate the tally in the 61st minute.
Just six minutes later, Flan again disrupted the Quelossim defence and assisted substitute Avner in making his presence felt. Flan seemed to be unstoppable and contributed to the fifth and final goal as skipper Ribhav’s shot didn’t miss the target this time. With the win, the Salgaocar colts claimed the top honours in the league’s South Zone.
