Panaji: The All-Goa Elite and U-19 State Boxing Championship concluded successfully from October 8 to 10, 2024, at the Boxing Hall in Peddem. The event featured 92 boxers from 13 different centers across the state.
RCC SDM emerged as the champion, winning a total of 6 gold and 4 silver medals, totalling 26 points. The team was coached by Chitabaram Naik. Jab and Box finished in second place with 3 gold and 4 silver medals, earning 17 points, while RCC Peddem secured third place with 15 points, coached by Nilesh Khanolkar.
This championship served as a selection event for the Elite Men’s and Women’s training camp ahead of the national championships in November.
Francis Viegas, President of the Goa Amateur Boxing Association (GABA), expressed his satisfaction with the high participation of Elite and U-19 boxers. He highlighted the talent displayed and emphasized the importance of this championship in preparing for the national competitions.
One of the most exciting bouts featured Laxman Toralkar from RCC Peddem and Ashok Chawan from RCC SDM. The match was intense and skillful, and Toralkar won by a split decision.
Another thrilling match was between Umesh Chawhan of RCC Peddem and Sohan Salgaokar of RCC SDM. Umesh, drawing on his experience, won the bout by points decision after a closely contested fight.
