MARGAO: SC Davorlim held their composure in the penalty shootout to edge past a spirited UBD Colva 5-3 after the teams were locked in a goalless draw in the 20th Super Soccer Inter-Village Tournament, organised by United Club Benaulim at the St. John the Baptist Panchayat Ground, Benaulim.
Both defences remained resolute, ensuring the teams went into the break with the scores level at 0-0.
Davorlim emerged after the restart with greater intent and repeatedly tested the Colva defence with long-range efforts, only to be frustrated by goalkeeper Rio Rebello, who produced a string of superb saves to keep his side in the contest.
At the other end, Daniel Rodrigues was a constant threat with his pace and skilful dribbling, although he lacked the finishing touch. Colva came closest to breaking the deadlock late in the match when Clyde Dias found himself in front of goal, but he failed to convert from close range.
With neither side able to find a winner in regulation time, the match was decided by penalties. Davorlim were flawless from the spot as Aeren, Milton, Prince, Ajay and Adman converted all five of their attempts. For Colva, Riston, Steward and Beaven scored, but it was not enough to prevent Davorlim from advancing.
UBD Colva's Daniel Rodrigues was named Man of the Match and received the award from former India international Mateus Costa.
