Goans Hockey suffered a second successive defeat in Pool G of the Hockey India Senior Men's National Championship as they went down to Hockey Maharashtra 5-0 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.
Maharashtra started the scoring as early as the second minute, converting a penalty corner, and added a second 15 minutes later, again through a dead ball situation, converting another penalty corner.
The winners scored three more goals, through field goals, in the 21st, 23rd and 26th minutes and thereafter could not add more goals to the score in the second half.
Maharashtra had earlier trounced Gujarat 30-0 in one of the matches of Pool G match. Goans Hockey will take on Gujarat in their last match, looking for their first win in many years. Gujarat have also lost both matches and conceded 46 goals while Goa have conceded eight goals and scored one in their two matches.
Devindar Sunil Walmiki put Maharashtra ahead, Pratap Shinde scored the second, while Aditya Lalage, Aniket Gurav and Ajinkya Jadhav added field goals to give them the emphatic win.
In another Pool G match, Jharkhand defeated Gujarat 18-2.
In the other results of the day, Hockey Association of Odisha, Le Puducherry Hockey registered dominant wins in their respective pool matches.
