Sevens women’s football festival at Ambelim

In a bid to support and promote women’s football in the state, the Goa Sevens have taken a step ahead as they will be conducting Sevens Women’s Football Festival along with the Goa Sevens Premier League (GSPL) at Ambelim Sports Complex, Ambelim from April 28 to May 17.

The Goa Sevens Premier League (GSPL) announced their principal sponsor for the Goa Sevens Premier League Season 2 in the form of  Quadros Motors Pvt Ltd. The league is supported by co-sponsor ONGC, equipment partners Vector X along with other sponsors HDFC Bank and Kingfisher. 

Speaking on the occasion, GSPL President Benjamin Silva said: “ I would like to thank Quadros Motors for coming on board as the principal sponsor and supporting the GSPL Season 2. We had them last year and after enjoying success, they have come forward to become the title sponsor. Also proud to welcome ONGC, HDFC Bank, Vector X and Kingfisher for lending their support for the league”

Managing Director of Quadros Motors, Evencio Quadros said: “Last year we supported the GSPL and it was a great success. This year we are supporting the league in a much broader way and are happy to work with GSPL for second successive season.”

This season GSPL will witness exciting football and will also see the women of Goa play the fast paced football in sync with the men’s GSPL season 2. 

“It gives me great joy to announce that this season we are having sevens women’s football festival along with the men’s league. Women today are equal with men and they deserve the similar platform wherein they can showcase their skills and abilities. And we are here to support them as they will get an opportunity to witness a fast paced football format,” added Benjamin explaining about the women’s football festival at a press conference at Fatorda.

Altogether six teams are participating in the women’s festival, namely Ambelim Queens, Black Arrows Miramar, Skyla Strikers Ponda, Euro Connexion Vasco, Union of Chinchinim Villagers and Royal Builders Navelim.

ONGC Goa General Manager Atul Garg said: “We are not new to the sport but we have heard a lot about the Sevens football. And considering their last season’s success we came forward to become the co-sponsor for the league.”

Earlier, Benjamin Silva unveiled the trophies and the tournament ball ‘Vector X thunder’, a FIFA approved International Match Standard (IMS) football; in the presence of Vector X representative Anthony Dias, GSPL Tournament Co-ordinator Charlton Furtado.
