St Anthony Assolda advanced to the final of the 2nd Vauradencho Ixtt Trophy after edging past Mandopa Sporting Club 1-0 in the second semifinal played at the DSYA ground, Curtorim, on Thursday.
The semifinal was witnessed by a large crowd and featured end-to-end attacking football from both sides. The decisive moment came in the 13th minute when Regan Costa found the net to score what proved to be the match-winning goal, sealing St Anthony Assolda’s place in the final.
Alton Vaz of St Anthony Assolda was adjudged Man of the Match, with the award presented by Climax Lawrence, former international footballer.
St Anthony Assolda will now face United Boys of Ambaulim in the final of the tournament on Sunday, January 25, at 4.30 pm.

S2 Strikers extend winning run
MARGAO: S2 Strikers extended their winning run, while Brahmaputra Bulls and Govindraj Legends shared the honours in a tie during the fifth round of the Sarsangan Commonwealth Developers +40 Men’s Cricket Series at the Arlem Cricket Ground. In the first match, S2 Strikers defeated Mapusa Dream Crushers by five wickets. Batting first, Mapusa posted 187 for 5, with Damodar Pai Patnekar, Rajesh Colvalcar and Vibhav Pai scoring 35 each, and Mahesh Churi remaining unbeaten on 27. Shailesh Mahajan took 2 for 24. In reply, S2 Strikers reached 188 for 5 in 18.2 overs, led by an unbeaten 38 from Mahendra Pai Kuchelkar and 36 from Sarvesh Kamat. Samruddh Hegde Desai was named Man of the Match.
In the second match, Govindraj Legends scored 173 for 7, with Gururaj Bale top-scoring with 36. Brahmaputra Bulls replied with 173 for 7, finishing level after a late fightback led by Siddhesh Prabhu Alvenkar and Laxmikant Kurade. Aditya Prabhugaonkar was adjudged Man of the Match.

Leather-ball cricket tourney at Fatorda
MARGAO: Cuncolim Super King’s Cricket Club will organise the MR DS 37 Trophy T20 leather-ball cricket tournament, which will begin on January 27 at the SAG Ground, Fatorda. The tournament will feature 16 teams competing for the title, with the final slated for February 7. The winners of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000, while the runners-up will pocket Rs 25,000. The two losing semi-finalists will each receive Rs 5,000. The tournament is open to non-professional players, allowing them to participate in the competition.
