St Anthony’s Club Colva defeated United Sports Club Seraulim 5-4 in a tiebreaker to storm into the final of the Holy Trinity Trophy football tournament, organised by PYA Consua in association with Football Friends Benaulim, at St John the Baptist Ground, Dando Benaulim, on Wednesday.
Seraulim dominated the midfield in the early stages, with Aiden Fernandes finding gaps in the Colva defence. They deservedly took the lead in the 11th minute when Fernandes set up Riyan Asampur, who outpaced Colva defender Rosvil Barbosa before firing a powerful shot into the net.
Colva responded quickly, restoring parity five minutes later. Samson Gomes’ low free-kick was not handled cleanly by Seraulim goalkeeper Raynell Pereira, allowing Bevan Goes to pounce on the rebound and score.
Seraulim continued to press for a winner, but Riyan Asampur and Prosen Mondel missed good opportunities as the match remained level at the end of regulation time.
Colva held their nerve in the tiebreaker, with Riston Gomes, Bevan Goes, Samson Gomes and Dinu Raikar converting their attempts. For Seraulim, Oliver D’Souza, Klinsman Vaz and Aiden Fernandes found the net.
Bevan Goes of St Anthony’s Club Colva was named Man of the Match. He received the trophy from chief guest Tennyson Rosa, former Varca player, and guest of honour Kennedy Noronha, president of USC Seraulim.
