MARGAO
St Xavier Academy from Old Goa, Sanjay Centre for Special Education from Vasco, and Gujarati Samaj Special School from Margao clinched the top spots in the first, second, and third divisions of the 2nd Jack Souza Ferrao Memorial Futsal Championship 2024. The event was held at the Camp Souza Futsal Ground in Camurlim-Loutolim.
The championship was organized in collaboration with Special Olympics Bharat Goa, Gujarati Samaj Educational Trust Special School Margao, and JPIC Goa, with support from the Industrial Development Corporation Goa and Verna Industries Association.
The championship was inaugurated by P. Pravimal Abhishek I.A.S., MD of the Industrial Development Corporation Goa, with Kalpak Arvare, Chairman of Verna Industries Association, as the Guest of Honour. Also present were Mukesh Saglani, Chairman of Gujarati Samaj Educational Trust Special School, Pradeep Da Costa, former Chairman of Verna Industries Association, Climax Lorence, former captain of the Goa football team, Fr. Inacio Noronha from JPIC Goa, Mary Souza Ferrao, wife of the late Jack Souza Ferrao, and Veerendra Souza of Camp Souza.
A total of 120 students from 10 special school teams across South and North Goa participated in the championship, which was played in a league format across three divisions based on ability.
Veerendra Souza Ferrao of Camp Souza welcomed everyone, and Victor Vaz of Special Olympics Bharat Goa briefed the participants on the rules and regulations.
The closing ceremony was attended by Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, MLA of Curtorim and Chairman of the Industrial Development Corporation Goa, who was the Chief Guest. Mukesh Saglani, Chairman, and Ranjan Naik, Manager of Gujarati Samaj Special School, also attended the event.
Trophies, medals, and certificates were presented to the winning teams and players by the dignitaries.
The event concluded with a unified game, and contributions from Prashant Tari, Ulhas Mahale of Gujarati Samaj Special School, Victor Vaz, Louis Fernandes, and Agnelo Fernandes of Special Olympics Bharat Goa helped ensure the smooth organization of the games.
