Five-times champion of the Goa Triathlon, Swiss Ironman triathlete Pablo Erat will be the star attraction at the Goa Triathlon 113 scheduled to be held at the Vainguinim beach on January 13, 2019.
Erat, who will lead foreign triathletes from Japan, Sweden, Australia, France, Belgium, Switzerland and Finland, has personally sponsored Rs 40,000 as prize money for the fastest Indian man and woman in an effort to encourage the sport in India. The total prize money for the event is Rs 1,90,000.
Likewise, Kaustubh Radkar, India’s most accomplished Ironman triathlete with 22 Ironman titles, will be the race director of the event. A majority of the Indian triathletes are coming from Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Surat.
Disclosing this information to media persons in the city on Wednesday, Elias Patel, founder director, Enduro Sports Goa, said that the Goa Triathlon 113 would be India’s first 113 kms distance Triathlon with an open water sea swim leg.
The triathletes will first swim in the Vainguinim Bay, followed by a 90km cycle ride on the Goa University-Miramar beach road and will conclude with a 21.1 km half marathon run on the same route. The event is being conducted in collaboration with Cidade de Goa, Dona Paula and will be held throughout the day. There will be an awards ceremony and a gala dinner for the triathletes, their family and friends in the evening.
