UB Dando edge past Varca SC

MARGAO

A first half strike by Jolwin Cardozo enabled Varca Sports Club overcome hosts United Boys of Dando-Colva 1-0 to cruise into the quarter-finals of All Goa 27th Super Soccer inter village football tournament organized by United Boys of Dando-Colva at St John the Baptist Dando ground, Benaulim on Friday. The match at the break was goalless.

Hosts United Boys of Dando-Colva threatened the rival goal with a couple of sorties but lady luck did not smile on them despite enjoying the lion's share of exchanges. At the other end, Varca Sports Club were at the receiving end and hardly made any inroads inside the opposition territory as the rival defenders stood tall in protecting their citadel. Their forwards were kept quiet for major part of the tie. United Boys had a chance to break the deadlock but Joston Pereira's rasping shot missed the target narrowly.

After change of ends, United Boys continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges but ruefully wasted their scoring chances. The lone goal of the match came in the 43rd minute when Joylin Cardozo bulged the net for Varca Sports Club. Stung by the reversal, United Boys were all out in search of equalizer but failed to get past the rival goalkeeper.
