Varca Sports Club humbled Ambelim Sports Club 5-0
to storm into the quarter-finals of the 33rd Strikers
Trophy Football Tournament organized by Young Strikers, Benaulim at St John
Baptist Dando Ground,
Benaulim on Friday.
Ambelim had themselves to blame for the heavy defeat as their strikers, Jade Colaco and Samsom Simoes wasted gilt-edged chances.
Ambelim dominated the entire first session but
their forward line was so wasteful.
After the change of ends, Varca was a transformed side and gradually took control over the proceedings.
Varca took the lead in the 45th minute through striker Clavis Gonsalves who took a Dylan Lima pass and shot past Mariel Pereira, the Ambelim goalkeeper.
Varca then doubled the lead in the 52 minute when winger, Joylon Cardozo
on receiving an Elvis Fernandes pass, struck a
right footer past a diving
Mariel.
Ambelim never recovered from the quick jolts and Joylon Cardozo soon recorded his hat-trick by firing a right footer past the hapless Ambelim goalkeeper.
Ambelim had no luck whatsoever as Jade Colaco's shot struck the post and went out. Medio Stanley Fernandes of Ambelim then shot wide from inside the box.
At the fag end of the match, Varca striker, Clavis Gonsalves got his brace and to complete the rout.
