MARGAO
Varca Veterans knocked out host USC of Seraulim A 2-1 to enter the semi-finals of the Benaulim Constituency 8-a-side football tournament, organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim, at Seraulim panchayat ground.
Varca Veterans opened their account in the seventh minute of the first half when the Seraulim goalkeeper went up to the top of the box for collection however the Seraulim defender intercepted and made a weak clearance which landed at the feet of Henry who shot into an empty goal.
Seraulim Veterans then took charge and dominated the game. They were all around the Varca territory but were unfortunate to score despite their dominance. In the 12th minute, it seems like Seraulim found the equaliser when Jess Cardozo after dribbling a couple of defenders placed the ball only to see it hit the goalpost and come back to play. It was then a well placed power-packed shot from Sandeep which was beautiful punched by the Varca goalkeeper Rumeo for a corner. With all attempts made, Seraulim could not find an equaliser and had to settled down with a 0-1 at lemon break.
Varca scored their second goal in the third minute of the second half through a defensive lapse. Seraulim after having suffered the second goal looked a bundle of nerves and did not know what to do and Varca slowly took possesion and although Seraulim had the possession of the ball there were no dangerous moves to create goal. It was during the last ten minutes of the game that Seraulim took over and score through Sandeep's controversial goal to make it 2-1.
In the second match Carmona Veterans got the better of USC of Seraulim B 5-3 via the tie-breaker after both team were level in a 1-1 draw. The tie-breaker system were adopted and Carmona Veterans proved to be better shooters.
During regular time Felix Fernandes scored for USC Seraulim and Yuri Alemao equalised for Carmona Veterans.
