A brilliant brace by Vipul Pednekar helped St Anthony's Sports Club, Marna-Siolim blank Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club 2-0 to romp into the quarter-finals of All Goa Our Lady of Merces inter-village football tournament, organised by Sirlim Sports Club at Church grounds, Chinchinim on Saturday. St Anthony's Sports Club led 1-0 at the breather.
St Anthony's Sports Club were aggressive from the start and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. St Anthony's Sports Club brokethrough in the 14th minute when striker Vipul Pednekar slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot off a pass from Mukund Shirodkar.
At the other end, Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club appreared to be jaded and failed to function as a cohesive unit and their movements seemed restricted to their own half.
After resumption, St Anthony's Sports Club started the proceedings and upped their ante and pushed Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club on the backfoot. Areal kept their rivals at bay. Vipul Pednekar who was in the thick of action struck a second time and registered his brace off a pass from Adrich Fernandes.
