Ambelim SC beat Sporting Club of Davorlim 3-1 in a thrilling penalty shootout to reach the quarter-finals of the 1st VJT Cup 2023.
The teams had several chances to score in the first half but none could find the finishing touch. Semson Fernandes of Ambelim tried to test the Davorlim goalkeeper with some well-placed shots, but he was denied every time. Delton Colaco of Davorlim also showed his skills and creativity but he could not break the Ambelim defence.
The second half was equally competitive and spirited as both teams searched for the elusive goal. However, neither team could break the deadlock and the match went into a penalty shootout. In the shootout, Rayan Pinto, Velroy Fernandes and Lester Fernandes scored for Ambelim, while only Delton Colaco managed to score for Davorlim.
Delton Colaco was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance and contributions to his team. He received a special prize from Joe Dias of VJT Arts.
CAC SCC thrash St Anthony's 5-2
CAC Sports and Cultural Club trounced St Anthony’s SC of Colva 5-2 to enter the quarterfinals of the 15th edition of St Anthony’s Festival inter-village football tournament played at Moll ground, Assolda on Monday.
Elvino Fernandes scored a brace while Domnic Soares, Reagan Soares and Klevin Pereira netted a goal each for CAC. Calburn Fernandes and Riston Gomes were the scorers for St Anthony’s SC.
